The Phocuswright Conference just wrapped up its annual travel event in Los Angeles with the top leaders in the travel industry.  For those new to the conference, it hosts speakers from travel, hospitality and technology companies and features travel technology startups who pitch new ideas at the Phocuswright Innovation Platform.  HelloGbye was proud to be a Phocuswright sponsor and have a booth at the event.

We had several commercials that played on the Phocuswright mainstage that showcased our platform for travel.

 

HelloGbye allows you to search, book and manage travel itineraries for flights and hotels in seconds by voice or text. It provides you the ability to set your travel preferences so that your search results are tailored to you.

We provided live demos in our booth and showed many attendees how they could simply speak or type their travel plans and generate an itinerary in seconds.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive. When one experiences the application for the first time and sees how quickly it produces personalized options for an itinerary (did I say how fast it is, we are talking seconds, literally!), it will blow your mind.  We launched our desktop BETA last week. Speaking of personalization, there was a lot of buzz this year at Phocuswright about how the travel industry can use data to create a better customer experience. Gaining insight into the customer’s booking behavior and their travel preferences, the industry can reduce the countless forms, websites and multi-step antiquated processes.

 

2 Phocuswright Takeaways

1 – Chat-based interfaces. Chat-based interfaces are being implemented for a variety of travel needs – hotel concierges, airlines and hotels customer support, searching and booking flights and hotels and more. Even, the conference had a chat-based concierge available. Travel chat bots are replacing emails, phone calls and traditional communications. It has kicked off a lot of new chat interfaces from the travel industry. I would argue though that chatbots are not artificial intelligence, and there is still a long way to go with chat technology to really make it accurate and functional for the end user. Regardless, the chat interface and artificial intelligence is going to revolutionize the travel industry and HelloGbye is going to be at the forefront.

2 – Big Data. Many companies are making the move to use big data to provide insight into travel behaviors – from the inspiration and discovery phases, to searching and booking – and a personalized hotel experience, including food/drink choices to in-destination activities. For example, one start-up, used social listening to learn your preferences during your hotel stay based on what you shared on Twitter and Facebook. Then, the hotel can provide you with this personalization and particular recommendations on your next stay. Collective intelligence was being used to gather intelligence from several companies, organizations and individuals to merge multiple processes into a single occurrence. Many companies and start-ups are in the initial exploration phase on how to use this data to improve the customer experience.
